Kenya celebrates its 62nd Madaraka Day, with the main national event in Homa Bay emphasizing unity, freedom, and economic progress, presided over by President William Ruto. Governor Ochilo Ayacko on his social media account echoed the national sentiment, extending warm wishes for “strength, unity, and freedom” to all Kenyans. He urged citizens to honor the nation’s heroes and continue building a “brighter, more prosperous future for generations to come,” reinforcing the message of a “Kenya forever strong!”
President Ruto’s address highlighted significant achievements, including a 5% economic growth, reduced inflation (to 3.8%), and a stronger shilling. He detailed progress in affordable housing (11,000 units completed), universal health coverage (23 million registered, free emergency services), agricultural reforms (fertilizer subsidies, increased farmer earnings), and education (76,000 new teachers, CBC implementation, student-centered university funding).
Slovenian President Nataša Pirc Musar, the chief guest, urged Kenyans to safeguard their independence and resist condescending attitudes. She emphasized multilateralism, shared values like sustainable development, and lauded Kenya’s role in African unity and AfCFTA ratification, concluding that “A strong Africa ensures a strong Kenya.” She also mentioned joint projects in water protection and modern beekeeping.
