Migori County’s pride and Kenya’s newest athletics sensation, Lillian Odira, received a rousing welcome today at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) after clinching gold in the 800 meters finals at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Japan.

H.E Governor Ochilo Ayacko led the celebrations, praising Odira’s historic victory which he described as a testament to “hard work, resilience, and the indomitable spirit of the people of Migori.”

“Lillian has lifted the Kenyan flag high on the global stage and brought immense pride and honor to Migori County. Her success inspires every young person in our villages and towns that with determination and support, dreams do come true,” the governor said.

Plans are already underway for a grand homecoming celebration in Migori County, where thousands are expected to turn up to honor the world champion.

Odira’s triumph has not only placed Migori on the world athletics map but has also ignited hope and inspiration across the country.

Migori is proud. Kenya is proud. The world is inspired.
