Recognizing agriculture as the backbone of Migori’s economy, Governor Ayacko has prioritized farming in his development agenda, seeking to modernize the sector through strategic investments and policy-driven support.
The certified seed distribution program reflects the county government’s commitment to empowering smallholder farmers by ensuring access to improved agricultural inputs that can withstand climate variability, resist pests and diseases, and deliver higher yields.
This program is about more than just giving seeds to farmers, it is about investing in the future of our county, said his exellency the Governor during the launch.”By providing certified seeds, we are empowering our farmers to become more productive, more resilient, and more prosperous”. This is a critical step toward achieving sustainable food security and economic self-reliance for our communities.
The initiative targets thousands of farmers across all sub-counties within Migori County, beginning with Rongo, where agriculture plays a vital role in household income and community sustenance.
Alongside seed distribution, the county government is has also intensify agricultural extension services, providing training on climate-smart farming techniques, and facilitating access to markets to ensure that farmers realize the full value of their harvests.
His Excellency the Governor Ayacko’s agricultural agenda emphasizes inclusivity, innovation, and sustainability. The seed program is a foundational element in a broader strategy that includes soil testing, irrigation development, mechanization, and the promotion of agribusiness and value addition.
With these efforts, Migori County aims to become a model of rural transformation where empowered farmers drive economic growth and ensure that no family goes hungry.
