Migori County is set to host the inaugural Nutri-WASH Conference and officially launch the World Breastfeeding Week celebrations from August 5th to 7th, 2025, at Rongo University Main Campus.

This landmark event is a collaborative effort between the Migori County Department of Health, Rongo University, and the Ministry of Health, aiming to strengthen the integration of nutrition, water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) strategies for improved public health outcomes. It brings together stakeholders from across the health, academic, and development sectors to share knowledge, discuss best practices, and promote sustainable health solutions in line with national and global development goals.

Speaking ahead of the conference, Migori Governor H.E. Dr. Ochillo Ayacko extended a warm welcome to all participants, both local and international, noting the significance of the event for the county and the nation at large.

“We are proud to host the 1st Nutri-WASH Conference here in Migori and to be part of the global celebration of World Breastfeeding Week. This is a unique opportunity for collaboration and innovation as we work toward a healthier future for our communities,” said Dr. Ayacko.

The three-day event will feature keynote addresses, panel discussions, exhibitions, and community engagement activities focused on promoting maternal and child health, proper nutrition, clean water access, and sanitation. Special emphasis will be placed on the importance of breastfeeding and the need for supportive environments for mothers and infants.

Organisers say the conference will also serve as a platform to highlight successful county-level interventions and encourage knowledge exchange among counties and development partners.

As Migori County positions itself as a leader in health and development initiatives, the Nutri-WASH Conference is expected to leave a lasting impact and inspire continued investment in integrated health approaches across Kenya.
