H.E. Governor Ochilo Ayacko hosted Dr. Carolyne Karugu, the Principal Secretary for the East African Community, at his office, where they discussed several issues affecting the region and the broader East African Community.
They engaged in meaningful dialogue on enhancing cross-border interaction and collaboration, particularly regarding trade with their neighbors in Tanzania, as well as fostering cultural and social exchanges that strengthen their ties.
A key focus of their discussion was the need to ensure a conducive environment for the fisherfolk community, who continue to face harassment in Lake Victoria. He noted that it is essential to protect their livelihoods and support sustainable practices that benefit all stakeholders involved.
The Governor stated that the County Government is in the process of acquiring a significant parcel of land for the establishment of Jumuiya Market at the Isebania border. He added that the initiative aims to boost trade between Kenya and Tanzania, providing a vital hub for economic growth and opportunity in the region.
