Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry, Dr. Deborah Mlongo Barasa, convened a strategic meeting with members of the County First Ladies Association (CFLA) to address pressing environmental and climate challenges, it was announced today.
The meeting, held under the leadership of CFLA Chairperson, Her Excellency Alamitu Jattani, focused on developing a coordinated approach to tackle the escalating environmental issues impacting communities across Kenya.
Discussions centered on aligning existing environmental programs with grassroots initiatives, particularly in Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs) and Lake regions, areas experiencing the most severe effects of climate change.
Participants explored practical strategies for mobilizing resources, bolstering advocacy efforts, and implementing community-driven projects. Special emphasis was placed on empowering women, youth, and children, recognizing their critical role in climate resilience.
The meeting underscored the need for a synergized effort between national and county-level initiatives to effectively combat climate change and its impact on vulnerable populations.
