In a recent meeting held in Nairobi, Migori County H.E Governor Ochillo Ayacko met with the Cabinet Secretary for Mining and Blue Economy, Hon. Ali Hassan Joho, to deliberate on key issues surrounding mining operations in Migori County. The discussions centered on streamlining processes for the effective and sustainable management of natural resources in the region.

Governor Ayacko said the talks aimed at improving coordination between the county and national government to ensure that mining activities are conducted in a way that benefits both the environment and the local communities. He emphasized the need to balance economic growth with ecological sustainability.

A major point of focus in the meeting was the empowerment of artisanal miners, who play a crucial role in the local economy. The Governor reported that they explored strategies to enhance the safety, efficiency, and profitability of artisanal mining. He stated that access to training, modern equipment, and broader markets would be prioritized to help improve miners’ livelihoods and ensure their contributions lead to broader community development.
