The First Lady of Migori County Dr. Agnes Ochilo today took center stage at the 1st Nutri-WASH Conference 2025 held at Rongo University, where she joined her counterparts from across the country in a powerful call to action on matters of nutrition and community health.
Addressing participants at the landmark event, the Migori County First Lady emphasized the urgent need to prioritize proper nutrition for children, pregnant women, and lactating mothers, while also underlining the critical role water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) play in promoting sustainable health outcomes.
“This conference marks a crucial step forward in our collective efforts to secure the health of our communities,” she said. “Ensuring access to nutritious food and clean water is not just a policy issue it’s a moral obligation.”
She was joined by other distinguished members of the County First Ladies Association (CFLA), including Mrs. Alamitu Jattani (First Lady of Marsabit County and Chair of the CFLA), Mrs. Lydia Barchok (Bomet County), and Mrs. Margaret Makelo (Bungoma County). Together, they engaged in dynamic discussions with public health experts, government officials, and civil society stakeholders focused on improving maternal and child health through integrated nutrition and WASH interventions.
The event brought attention to the growing concerns of malnutrition, stunting, and waterborne diseases that continue to affect vulnerable populations across Kenya. The First Ladies committed to championing increased investment in grassroots programs that support education, health services, and access to clean water.
“This conference is more than a conversation; it’s a platform for coordinated action,” added the Migori First lady Dr Agnes ochilo. “We must work together county governments, development partners, and communities to build healthier, stronger futures for all.”
The Nutri-WASH Conference 2025 is expected to become an annual platform for knowledge-sharing and policy alignment among counties, promoting synergy between nutrition and WASH initiatives.
