Migori County has officially launched a landmark digital transformation in its health sector alongside a mass registration drive for the Social Health Authority (SHA), signaling a new era in healthcare delivery for residents.
H.E Governor Dr. Ochilo Ayacko, while hosting the Principal Secretary for Medical Services, Dr. Ouma Oluga, presided over the twin launch that took place amid optimism and high expectations. The digitization initiative will introduce cutting-edge digital systems across county health facilities, with the aim of improving service delivery, data accuracy, and accountability in the health sector.
“This is not just a technological upgrade, it’s a transformative leap in how we deliver healthcare,” stated the Governor . “With real-time data, we will streamline claims processing under SHA, enhance performance tracking, and ensure faster reimbursement for services offered.”
A major boost came in the form of 750 digital devices donated by the Ministry of Health, comprising 112 computers and 638 tablets. These tools are expected to strengthen the operational capacity of local health facilities and facilitate smooth onboarding of beneficiaries into the SHA system.
The Governor urged all Migori residents—particularly those in the informal sector—to participate in the ongoing SHA registration campaign. He emphasized that universal access to quality, affordable healthcare is a constitutional right and that SHA provides a pathway to achieving that goal without exposing families to financial hardship.
Principal Secretary Dr. Oluga applauded Migori’s proactive approach and reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to supporting counties in the rollout of the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) agenda.
The County Government now calls on all stakeholders, community leaders, and partners to rally behind this initiative, which is set to place Migori at the forefront of health sector innovation and equity in Kenya.
