H.E Governor Ochilo Ayacko today presided over the opening session of the Kenya Devolution Support Programme II (KDSP II) sensitisation workshop, a crucial forum aimed at strengthening the legal and technical frameworks underpinning devolution in Kenya.
The week-long workshop, held at the Mnarani Beach Club in Kilifi, brings together members of County Legal Committees and County Attorneys from across the country. It is part of a national effort to enhance counties’ legal preparedness for the effective implementation of KDSP II.
Speaking during the session, Governor Ayacko underscored the critical role that legal professionals play in entrenching devolution by aligning county legal systems with national development goals. “Legal structures must support and not hinder the rollout of key development programmes. The Legal Committees are central to ensuring KDSP II delivers tangible results for our people,” he remarked.
The sensitization workshop is co-hosted by the Council of Governors, the Ministry of Devolution, and the National Treasury, and is expected to equip participants with actionable strategies to strengthen legal frameworks across Kenya’s devolved units.
As counties prepare for the next phase of KDSP, the training aims to ensure that legal officers are well-positioned to address legislative gaps, promote compliance, and support effective governance at the grassroots level
