Migori Governor H.E. Dr. Ochilo Ayacko has presided over the rollout of the Inclusion and Upgrading Matching Grant Programmes targeting SACCOS and Farmers’ Producer Organizations (FPOs) across the county. The initiative, funded by the World Bank through the National Agricultural Value Chain Development Project (NAVCDP), is designed to strengthen agricultural value chains, foster innovation, and uplift the livelihoods of smallholder farmers.
On Day 1, 11 SACCOS and FPOs from Rongo, Awendo, and Uriri sub-counties received grants totaling KES 9.2 million. Beneficiaries included Rongo Bananas Farmers Cooperative, Rongo BeeKeepers, Radienya Skylux Farmers SACCO, Kolenya’s Farmers SACCO, Awendo Business Community SACCO, Opoya Multi-Purpose SACCO, East Kanyamkago Farmers SACCO, Uriri Bidii SACCO, Garden of Delight Farmers Cooperative, Skyriders Poultry Farmers Cooperative, and Central Kamagambo SACCO.
On Day 2, the programme extended a further KES 19.5 million to 8 SACCOS and 4 FPOs drawn from Suna East, Suna West, and Nyatike sub-counties. Among the beneficiaries were Kakrao Ward SACCO, God Jope Farmers SACCO, KWA SACCO, Suna Central Farmers SACCO, Ragana Oruba Wakulima SACCO, Kachieng Farmers SACCO, Got Kachola Farmers SACCO, Muhuru Resilient Farmers SACCO, as well as Nyatike Tomatoes and Nyatike United Marketing Cooperatives.
Speaking during the events, Governor Ayacko lauded the support from the World Bank, terming the initiative a game-changer in modernizing agriculture, improving productivity, and securing better incomes for farmers. He reiterated his administration’s commitment to investing in sustainable agricultural practices as a key driver of food security and economic growth in Migori County.
With the two rollouts, farmers’ groups in Migori have now received a combined KES 28.7 million, signaling a major boost to the county’s agricultural sector.
