Migori County Governor H.E. Dr. Ochilo Ayacko on today led two major cultural celebrations that showcased the region’s rich heritage and strengthened unity among diverse communities.
The Governor first graced the opening ceremony of the first-ever Kuria and Minority Communities Cultural Extravaganza at Tarang’anya Boys School. The two-day festival brought together the Abakuria, Abasuba, Agikuyu, and Abagusii communities in a vibrant display of traditional music, dances, food festivals, cultural villages, artifacts, and indigenous games including wrestling, archery, javelin and tug of war. Youth talent showcases featuring spoken word, art, music, and minority language performances also highlighted the event’s commitment to celebrating cultural identity and peaceful coexistence.
Later in the day, Governor Ayacko presided over the inaugural Luhya Cultural Extravaganza at Mukuyu in Uriri, where he joined community members in honoring traditions that preserve identity, strengthen social bonds, and uphold ancestral wisdom. He emphasized the county’s commitment to promoting diversity, harmony, and cultural unity values that align with the upcoming Piny Luo Cultural Festival.
Governor Ayacko was accompanied by leaders including PS Joseph Motari, Deputy Governor Joseph Mahiri, and Former Woman Representative Denittah Ghati among others, in what he described as a powerful affirmation that Migori County remains a beacon of cultural pride and cohesion.
