In April of the previous year, a dedicated initiative by First Lady Mama Agnes Ochilo was launched to support the most vulnerable members of the community, particularly widows, by introducing them to aquaculture as a means of empowerment.

The efforts of these groups have begun to bear fruit, with several widow groups celebrating their first fish harvest. Each group, which received a financial boost of Ksh. 250,000, has demonstrated remarkable resilience and commitment to their fish farming projects. The satisfaction expressed by Mama Agnes Ochilo upon witnessing the success of these harvests highlights the positive impact of the program.

Special recognition goes to the women of the Olare Singers Women Group from South Sakwa, Awendo, and the Smiling Widows Group from Suna East, among others, for their unwavering determination in embracing this initiative. The successful harvest not only promises financial benefits but also represents a significant advancement in improving nutrition for their households and enhancing the living standards of their families.
