Migori County has achieved a major milestone in its healthcare journey after Awendo Sub-County Hospital successfully conducted its first-ever surgical procedure a cesarean section.
Governor Dr. Ochilo Ayacko confirmed the breakthrough, celebrating it as a historic step forward for healthcare accessibility and quality in the county. He praised the medical team for their professionalism and commitment to serving residents.
“Today, we made history in Awendo. Our very first surgical procedure, a cesarean section, at Awendo Sub-County Hospital is successfully done. Thank you to the dedicated team making healthcare truly reach our people. Mother and baby are stable,” Governor Ayacko announced.
The successful procedure marks a significant upgrade for the facility, which has been undergoing improvements under the county’s ongoing health sector reforms. For years, residents in Awendo and surrounding areas have had to travel long distances to access surgical services.
With this development, the hospital is now positioned to offer life-saving interventions closer to the community, reducing referrals and easing pressure on other major facilities in Migori County.
Governor Ayacko reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening healthcare infrastructure and ensuring every resident has access to dignified, reliable medical services.
“Migori is rising, step by step,” he added.
Healthcare workers, local leaders, and residents have welcomed the news as a turning point for Awendo Sub-County and a sign of continued progress in Migori’s health sector.
