The Migori County Government today was honoured to host a high delegation guest from the State Industrial Development Corporation (SIDCO), alongside partners from the United States including Grammy-nominated singer Kelis in Migori town.
Led by our Deputy Governor Dr. Joseph Mahiri and County Secretary Dr. Oscar Olima, the meeting sought to find ways to create partnerships in a bid to modernise and add more to our gold mining sector while at the same time promoting cleaner, efficient mining practices.
The visit reaffirmed our commitment to strategic collaboration in advancing sustainable mining and industrialization, in partnership with National Mining Corporation with the main aim of boosting the mining sector.
With the over Ksh500million Migori County Aggregation and Industrial Park in Macalder Kanyarwanda ward in Nyatike nearing completion, the meeting will help Migori to gain insight from SIDCO which has expansive skills in supporting small-scale industries and managing industrial estates through access of infrastructure, raw materials, and marketing.
The meeting is a big boost for Migori as the park will offer investors amenities like a conducive environment for investment, roads, power, and water while Kelis Rogers, an American singer-songwriter and chef, will help brand Migori internationally.
Migori is renowned in the gold sector as our artisanal miners are responsible for over 75% of Kenya’s gold production.
