The Bodaboda industry in Migori County just received a major boost—and it’s all thanks to a powerful show of unity, leadership, and community spirit.

Governor Ochilo Ayacko, together with a team of local and national leaders, recently presided over a successful fundraiser in support of the Migori County Bodaboda SACCO. The event raised an impressive KSh 11.8 million aimed at supporting the thousands of youth who depend on the Bodaboda sector for a living.

In his remarks, Governor Ayacko described the Bodaboda industry as “a vital economic engine” for the county’s youth. He emphasized that these riders don’t just move people—they keep the local economy moving too.

“Our young people rely heavily on this sector,” he said. “As a county, we are committed to building partnerships and creating opportunities that help them grow, earn sustainably, and stay safe while doing so.”

One of the standout moments of the event was a generous KSh 5 million contribution from President William Ruto. According to the governor, this amount will go a long way in improving access to affordable loans, buying safety gear, and supporting training programs that will empower Bodaboda riders with better skills and safer practices.

But this fundraiser wasn’t just about the money—it was about vision. It was about recognizing the potential of informal sectors like Bodaboda and treating them as real drivers of development. Governor Ayacko’s message was clear: when we invest in youth-driven industries, we invest in the future of our communities.

With this kind of support and leadership, the future looks promising for Migori’s Bodaboda riders.
