Today in Nyatike Sub-county, Migori County, Head of Public Service Felix Koskei Principal Secretary PS, Dr. Kipronoh Ronoh, Principal Secretary for Irrigation Ephantus Kimotho Kimani – PS , and Migori Governor H.E Dr. Ochilo Ayacko launched a transformative government initiative aimed at recruiting and empowering 280 young people as agripreneurs. This recruitment is part of a broader governmental agenda to create job opportunities for youth and bolster agricultural productivity in rural areas.
The youth agripreneurs will work directly with local farmers, providing critical support to enhance productivity and ensure sustainable agricultural practices within the community. This program aligns with the government’s strategic vision of promoting agribusiness as a key driver of youth empowerment and economic development.
Fifteen counties have already completed their recruitment, and the program will soon expand nationwide, with a target of enlisting seven agripreneurs per ward. This initiative, part of the #DeliveringThePlan agenda, has received support from key ministries, including the Ministry of Agriculture & Livestock Development, Ministry of Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation, and is bolstered by partnerships with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and other stakeholders.
With a focus on sustainable growth, this program provides valuable employment opportunities for young people while contributing to the long-term resilience and development of rural communities across Kenya.
