Kuja Irrigation Block 2.1: Advancing Food Security and Economic Growth in Migori County

The Kuja Irrigation Block 2.1 project marks a major shift from rain-fed to irrigation-based agriculture, a vital strategy to boost food security and economic growth in Migori County. Upon completion, the project will bring approximately 19,000 acres under rice and high-value crop production, enhancing local output and supporting Kenya’s food security objectives.

During a recent inspection led by Head of Public Service Felix Koskei he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to timely irrigation project completions as part of the Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) to increase agricultural productivity and resilience. Host Migori County Governor Governor Ochilo Ayacko 044, Agriculture PS, Dr. Kipronoh Ronoh , Ephantus Kimotho Kimani – PS Irrigation , @National project coordinator Navcdp , Hon Lucas Mosenda CECM in charge of Migori Agriculture, Livestock & Fisheries Development Migori County Navcdp Project Project officials and other Ministry officials were also present, underscoring strong support for sustainable agricultural development.

The Farmer-Led Irrigation Development (FLID) initiative under the World Bank-funded NAVCDP project will further bolster irrigation infrastructure in the county, empowering farmers to boost productivity and market participation.
