Women empowerment is significant and continues to lead in the ring when describing economic and social outcome. Empowering women allows them/women to control and benefit from resources assets and income. According to Food Agriculture Organization {FAO} any effort towards women empowerment is essential for women well-being and has greater positive impact.
Earlier in the year the office of Migori County first lady office, with inclination to delivering major political promises during the campaign period by his excellency Hon Ochilo Ayacko, Madam Agnes Ochilo Ayacko through her foundation secured an economic financial support to help in alleviating poverty and reduction in involvement of Lake region women in unnecessary sexual related activities well known in lake region as “jaboya”
In this close collaboration the Foundation/Mama Agnes Ochilo identified 16 widow groups to benefit from Her Excellency Dorcas Rigathi support. Out of the 16 groups MELT Widows in Nyatike Muhuru Ward today had a smiling face to officially launch their Poultry farming project. The group had purchased 200 chicks 6 months old worth 250, 000 Kenya shillings.
This occasion was officially graced by Chief Officer Education Migory County Professor Rose, Director Livestock Nyamahanga, two representatives from the office of the 1st Lady {Philip Okelo and Madam Dorcas Kenyatta} and Nyatike Livestock officer Mr Ben.
This important project symbolizes hope, resilience and sustainable livelihood promoting mutual support amongst women in Migori County.
