The County Department of Health, under the leadership of Waziri Calleb Opondi and Chief Officer Sam Atula, in collaboration with USAID (Nuru ya Mtoto), PATH, Lwala Community Alliance, and other stakeholders, presided over the commencement of operations of Awendo Youth Hub in Awendo town. This initiative aims to address the critical issues of adolescent pregnancies, new HIV infections, and gender-based violence among the youth.

The youth hub will provide an enriching environment where young people can develop vital skills in computer and IT-related competencies, music production, darts, volleyball, and table tennis. This multifaceted approach not only empowers youths but also encourages them to engage positively in their communities.

Those who have already undergone training and mentorship will play a pivotal role in this initiative by teaching and mentoring their peers across Awendo Subcounty.

Together, they will work to combat the pressing challenges of HIV/AIDS, adolescent pregnancies, and gender-based violence.

The County Government of Migori, alongside its partners, is committed to ensuring the successful operation of the Youth Hub, creating a safe and supportive space for the youth of Awendo to learn, grow, and thrive. We believe that with united efforts, we can build a healthier and more resilient future for our young people.
