In a key step toward empowering young people across Migori County, a sensitization committee meeting was convened today at the Florence Hotel to deliberate on the draft Migori County Youth Policy. The meeting brought together top county leadership and sectoral experts, marking a milestone in ensuring inclusive and participatory policymaking for the youth.

The session was graced by several cabinet secretaries, the Chief Officer for Education, and key directorates, including Mr. Chacha Kagure, Director of Education, and Mr. Ben Guda, Director of Youth Affairs. The presence of these senior officials reflected the county government’s commitment to championing youth development initiatives and institutional reforms that promote youth participation in governance, economic empowerment, education, and social inclusion.

During the meeting, stakeholders were taken through the draft policy, which outlines strategic interventions aimed at addressing the multifaceted challenges facing youth in Migori. Discussions focused on access to quality education, skills development, employment opportunities, mental health, civic engagement, and the protection of youth rights.

Director Chacha Kagure emphasized the importance of integrating education and innovation within the policy, stating, “We must align our educational systems with the emerging needs of our youth, especially in this digital age. This draft policy gives us a chance to bridge existing gaps and open new pathways for success.”

Mr. Ben Guda underscored the need for grassroots engagement in policy development, noting, “Youth voices are critical in shaping a policy that truly represents their aspirations. Today’s sensitization is just the beginning—we must ensure continued dialogue with youth groups across the county.”

The meeting concluded with a call to action urging all departments and stakeholders to support the ongoing public participation process, ensuring that the final policy is inclusive, actionable, and youth-centered.

The draft Migori County Youth Policy is expected to be subjected to further stakeholder validation before its official adoption by the County Assembly later this year.
