Migori County today played host to the Cabinet Secretary for Co-operatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development, Hon. Wycliffe Oparanya, during a high-level visit to Ntimaru in Kuria East Constituency. The visit marks a renewed push to revive and stimulate coffee production across the county.
Hon. Oparanya’s tour is seen as a significant boost to ongoing efforts by the Migori County Government aimed at transforming the coffee sector through enhanced extension services, value addition, and farmer capacity building. These efforts are targeted not only in Kuria East but also in Misadhi area of Rongo Sub-county.
Speaking during the event, county officials reaffirmed their commitment to working hand-in-hand with local coffee farmers to increase productivity and ensure they benefit from favorable global coffee prices.
“This initiative is a major step forward in our strategy to restore Migori’s status as a leading coffee-producing region,” said a county representative. “We’re equipping our farmers with the tools and knowledge needed to compete in international markets.”
Farmers welcomed the move, expressing optimism that with the support from both the national and county governments, coffee farming will become a more viable and profitable venture.
The revitalization of coffee production is part of a broader agricultural development agenda aimed at improving livelihoods and creating sustainable income sources for rural communities in Migori County.
