In a major step towards strengthening grassroots economic development, Migori County has officially launched the Rongo Jua Kali Sacco, a cooperative society aimed at empowering small-scale artisans and entrepreneurs. The launch event took place at Rongo Primary School earlier today and saw the coming together of 42 Jua Kali groups from across the region.
Speaking during the launch, Migori Governor H.E. Dr. Ochilo Ayacko emphasized the county government’s commitment to supporting socio-economic initiatives that uplift communities.
“We are focused on moving Migori forward economically and socially by creating platforms that bring synergy and shared purpose. The Rongo Jua Kali Sacco is a clear example of how unity and organization can create pathways to opportunity,” the governor said.
The Sacco is expected to play a pivotal role in giving artisans access to financial resources, industrial machinery, modern technology, and government and private sector support, enabling them to scale their businesses and contribute more meaningfully to the county’s economy.
The event was graced by high-ranking dignitaries, including National Treasury and Economic Planning Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi, Rongo MP Paul Abuor, and Awendo MP Walter Owino, alongside officials from the Micro and Small Enterprises Authority (MSEA) and other development partners.
H.E Governor Ochilo Ayacko extended special thanks to the national government, MPs, and development organizations for their support and partnership in launching the Sacco.
“With strong collaboration across levels of government and among local groups, Migori County is on a path to sustainable economic transformation,” he added.
The launch of the Rongo Jua Kali Sacco marks a significant milestone in the county’s ongoing efforts to empower informal sector players and foster inclusive growth.
