This morning, His Excellency, the Governor of Migori County, Dr. Ochilo Ayacko, signed an agreement with development partners, WEEE Centre and PAN AFRICAN E-WASTE SOLUTIONS, alongside his Chief Officer of ICT, Mr. Nelson Wasonga. Aligned with his manifesto for a clean environment, job creation, and youth empowerment, this collaboration will be groundbreaking for the region and the people of Migori County.
The Kenyan Constitution provides that every person has the right to a clean and healthy environment, including the right to have the environment protected for the benefit of present and future generations through legislative and other measures. It is in this regard that His Excellency found it fitting to partner with PAES Limited, a Kenyan-based e-waste consultancy and management company specializing in technical support for the disposal of e-waste in an environmentally friendly manner for both the private and public sectors.
PAES has a special focus on developing policy frameworks for sustainable waste disposal, end-of-life product take-back, awareness creation on the importance of e-Waste Management, environmental conservation, as well as training and consultancy services in e-Waste Management. The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Centre (WEEE Centre) is a social enterprise that offers e-waste management services through the engagement of young people and communities in the e-waste processing value chains, aiming to improve social, economic, and environmental conditions in a sustainable circular model.
Effective service delivery is a hallmark of good governance for the county, with priorities that include urban planning, health, education, water and sewerage, environmental, and economic services, among others. Migori County, PAES, and WEEE Centre are eager to establish a mutually supportive and collaborative relationship to harmonize respective development activities and enhance development outcomes, youth empowerment, and capacity building, with a focus on the development agenda for the people. #sharedProsperity
