I appeared before the Senate standing committee on Devolution and Intergovernmental Relations in Nairobi to explain the operations of the 208 bank accounts held by the County Government of Migori.
In my submission, I clarified that there was no illegality or irregularity in the operations of the accounts as projected to the public. The law does not provide for a limit to the number of accounts, provided that the monies are utilised efficiently and appropriately as enshrined in the Public Finance Management Act.
We brought to the attention of the committee that 157 of the said accounts are held by the hospitals and dispensaries under the Facilities Improvement Financing Act of 2023.
I assured the Committee that we will address the matter raised by the Controller of Budget to ensure a lean, efficient and accountable financial system, and that the County continues to be in strict compliance with the law, while at the same time making sure that services are properly devolved to the benefit of the people of Migori.
