Migori County Governor H.E. Ochillo Ayacko has commended the efforts of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) for supporting the ongoing Indoor Residual Spraying (IRS) campaign, which targets malaria prevention in the region.
Speaking during a visit by the USAID team, the Governor reported that the campaign aims to cover 169,786 structures across five sub-counties in Migori. He emphasized that the intervention will protect over 800,000 people who are especially vulnerable to malaria, including pregnant women and children.
Governor Ayacko further stated that the IRS program has made a noticeable impact in reducing malaria infections within the county. He highlighted that beyond health benefits, the campaign has also yielded socio-economic gains, such as the creation of temporary employment opportunities for around 2,050 seasonal workers. This, he said, has provided much-needed income and supported local livelihoods.
He concluded by reaffirming the county government’s commitment to working with development partners to enhance public health and improve the well-being of residents
