Empowering Women Takes Center Stage in Migori County’s International Women’s Day Celebration

In a remarkable celebration of International Women’s Day, Migori County witnessed a gathering of influential figures and dedicated individuals at Rongo Sub-County in Central Kamagambo ward on March 8, 2024. The event was graced by Her Excellency Pastor Dorcas Gachagua, the esteemed second lady of Kenya.

Hosted by Migori County’s First Lady, Dr. Agnes Ochilo, the occasion drew the presence of another distinguished guest, First Lady of Marsabit County, Mrs. Alamitu Jatani. The celebration also welcomed the attendance of Migori County Deputy Governor, Dr. Mahiri Gimunta, Migori County Womnan Representative Hon Fatuma Mohamed, Rahab Robi, the County Executive Committee Member for Education and Gender, and Prof. Rose Ogwang Odhiambo, the Chief Officer for Education and Gender.

The event brought together Women MCAs from the Migori County Assembly, various partners, and stakeholders, creating a diverse and dynamic environment focused on women’s empowerment. A highlight of the celebration was the presence of Dr. Pastor Dorcas Gachagua, who not only graced the occasion but also took a proactive step in empowering local women.

Dr. Gachagua demonstrated her commitment by personally issuing cheques to various women groups. This financial support serves as a tangible effort to uplift and strengthen these groups, reflecting a dedication to fostering economic independence and gender equality.

The celebration in Migori County showcased a collective commitment to advancing the rights and opportunities of women. With influential figures and leaders coming together, the event not only marked the significance of International Women’s Day but also became a symbol of empowerment, collaboration, and progress in the pursuit of gender equality.
