DaCCA Advances Agroecology Awareness to Boost Sustainable Development and Food Security

The Devolution and Climate Change Adaptation Programme (DaCCA), operating in Western Kenya in collaboration with communities to conserve natural resources, today held a two day sensitization meeting on agroecology and its role in achieving sustainable development and food security.
The session emphasized key elements of agroecology, including:

Integrating ecological principles into agriculture to enhance biodiversity, improve soil health, and promote sustainable land use.

Adopting climate-resilient farming practices to reduce the vulnerability of food systems to climate change.

Advancing food sovereignty by encouraging localized, environmentally sound production methods.
Minimizing dependence on synthetic inputs through the adoption of organic and regenerative farming tecThis initiative aims to empower officers with the knowledge and skills needed to advocate for and implement agroecological practices at the community level. It also aligns with Migori County’s commitment to fostering sustainable agriculture and enhancing food security for its residents.
The program will conclude with a field visit in Uriri Sub County, where local farmers have successfully adopted agroecology principles, offering a practical demonstration of its benefits.hniques.
