The National Agricultural Value Chains Development Project (NAVCDP) has launched a five-day intensive residential training program for Community-Driven Development Committee (CDDC) members representing Migori County’s 40 wards. This training aims to empower grassroots institutions, equipping CDDC members with critical skills to effectively oversee and implement agricultural development projects.
CDDCs, established at the ward level with representation from Common Interest Groups (CIGs) and Vulnerable and Marginalized Groups (VMGs), play a key role in agricultural initiatives. Their responsibilities include managing project grants, overseeing community resources such as demonstration sites, and fostering sustainable agricultural practices to support local productivity
n his opening remarks during the official ceremony, CECM in charge of Migori Agriculture, Livestock & Fisheries Development Hon. Lucas Mosenda challenged the Community-Driven Development Committee (CDDC) members to uphold the highest standards of integrity and dedication in their operations. He emphasized that working transparently and effectively is essential to meeting both the project’s specific goals and the broader objectives of Migori County. Hon. Mosenda encouraged the CDDC members to remain committed to their responsibilities and to prioritize the needs of the communities they serve, ensuring that the project delivers meaningful, lasting benefits for all stakeholders.
Key Objectives of the Training:
1. Capacity Building for CDDCs: Strengthen members’ ability to manage and drive agricultural development at the grassroots level, promoting positive community change.
2. Project Grant Management: Equip members with guidance on managing project funds, emphasizing efficiency and transparency.
3. Resource and Site Management: Train members in best practices for managing community resources and demonstration sites, supporting sustainable agriculture.
4. Leadership and Governance: Enhance members’ leadership and governance skills, fostering accountability and effective decision-making.
5. Community Engagement: Develop strategies for engaging CIGs and VMGs, ensuring inclusive participation and addressing diverse community needs.
6. Monitoring and Evaluation: Introduce skills for tracking project progress and assessing impact, promoting accountability in agricultural productivity.
7. Sustainable Agricultural Practices: Educate members on environmentally-friendly practices such as soil conservation, water management, and climate-smart farming.
8. Networking and Collaboration: Encourage connections among CDDC members across wards, promoting the exchange of ideas and best practices.
This training is expected to enable CDDC members to become effective leaders in Migori’s agricultural development, contributing to rural development and food security throughout the region.
The clustered training commenced in earnest today with the first two clusters and is expected to be concluded by end of next week .
